An unknown disease has killed 143 people in Congo

Media reports indicate that the World Health Organization is aware of the situation and has sent a team to the region to collect samples; Although an official statement has not yet been published in this regard. “Panzi is a rural health district and there are problems with the supply of medicine there,” civil society leader Sephorin Manzanza told Reuters.

An epidemiologist from the same region reported that the unknown disease seemed to affect mostly children and women. However, it is still too early to draw firm conclusions about who is most at risk of developing the disease.

What makes the current situation worse is that the Congolese health system is currently involved in an outbreak of monkey pox. This year, Congo has reported more than 47,000 suspected cases and more than 1,000 suspected deaths related to monkeypox.
