Valve is developing the SteamDeck 2 handheld console

Steam Deck had a significant impact on the world of computer gaming. This portable device, which was inspired by the Nintendo Switch console, made it possible to play computer games anywhere. The success of Steamdeck led to the emergence of a multitude of Windows-based handheld consoles, each of which had its own advantages and disadvantages compared to Volvo’s product.

Although Velo has been tight-lipped about SteamDeck 2 so far, according to various indications, the company seems to be working on a prototype for its next-generation handheld console.

According to some indications on Proton Velo Platform’s GitHub page, the company may be working on SteamDeck 2. Of course, such a thing is speculation and there is no guarantee for the release of SteamDeck 2. Wello has made it clear in the past that he has no desire to build a successor to SteamDeck unless SteamDeck 2 can make a significant leap in performance over its current generation.

But what are the signs that SteamDeck 2 is about to start? First, Volvo updated the Proton to work with Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology. SteamDeck uses Proton to run Windows games on its Linux operating system, while using AMD graphics. Therefore, Proton’s optimization to use Nvidia technology could be a reference to Velo’s attempt to use green team graphics in the new version of Steam Deck.

The second point is the addition of Proton support for the Windows Arm (Arm64) architecture. By combining these two signs, we can guess that the giant of the gaming world is probably considering the creation of SteamDeck 2 with a processor based on Windows ARM and Nvidia graphics. Such a combination can bring the desired performance jump to Armaghan to justify the construction of the new model of the said console.
