The withdrawal of the Guardian newspaper from X social network; Protesting the rise of racism and conspiracy theories
British news agency The Guardian announced on Wednesday that it will no longer publish content on the X platform, citing “disturbing” content on the social network, including racism and conspiracy theories.
The Guardian, which has left-wing leanings and 10.7 million followers on X, is the first major British outlet to pull out of the platform. Critics say Musk’s unpolished approach has allowed lies and hate speech to spread on the platform.
In an article published on its website, the Guardian wrote: “We think that the benefits of being in X now outweigh the negative consequences and that our resources could be better used elsewhere to promote our journalism.” “We have been considering this decision for some time due to the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism,” the article said.
In response to the Guardian’s decision, Mask posted on X, writing about the Guardian: “They are irrelevant.”
In the continuation of the actions of institutions and personalities to leave X, Don Lehmana former CNN anchor, also announced that he is stepping down from Musk’s platform. “I once believed this was a place for honest debate and transparency and free speech,” he said in a post on X on Wednesday. But now I feel it no longer has such a role.”

This year, X and other platforms have been in the spotlight in the UK. The reason for this was false posts on social networks that claimed that an attack in the city of Southport in the north of England, during which three young girls were killed, was the work of an Islamist immigrant. After this incident, racist and extreme right-wing violence occurred in this country.
Reuters reported last month that one British police force had stopped using X, and several other agencies were considering continuing their presence on the platform. In recent months, some British charities and health and educational institutions have also announced the suspension of their activities on X. The British government continues to operate in X; But it will not use this platform for paid advertising.
