Toyota hasn’t released its full 2024 sales results, but it has reason to celebrate now. This company has sold 9,857,938 cars worldwide until November. To clarify, this number also includes the cars sold by the Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino sub-categories. Volkswagen Group also announced the full results of its sales in the last 12 months, which shows that the company’s sales have reached 9,239,500 cars and trucks with a decrease of 2.3%.
According to Motor1, even excluding December sales that have yet to be reported, Toyota has a significant lead over Volkswagen Group with sales of 618,438 vehicles. For the fifth year in a row, the Japanese giant has taken the title of the world’s largest car manufacturer. The company’s sales from January to November (December 1402 to December 1403) have decreased by 3.6% compared to the same period last year.
Although Toyota has faced challenges in the electric vehicle market, the company’s high variety of gasoline-powered vehicles has made its products available in most countries around the world. From small cars for Japan to full-fledged SUVs for the American market, there is no gap or void in Toyota’s product line. The company has sedans, station wagons, trucks, minivans, and even some sports cars like the GR86 and GR Supra, although these models don’t have a big impact on overall sales due to their niche.
Despite the fact that Volkswagen has more sub-brands under its umbrella, it once again failed to compete with Toyota. The German car conglomerate also offers a wider range of hybrid and electric vehicles, but it has failed to threaten Toyota’s position.
The Hyundai Motor Group, which includes the parent Hyundai brand along with Kia and Genesis, will likely eventually become the world’s third best-selling carmaker. This group sold 7.23 million cars last year, which was one percent less than last year.
