According to Applied Materials, the core of the MAX OLED technology advancement is the transition of OLED production from Gen 6 to Gen 8 glass substrates. This change allows manufacturers to produce larger and cheaper OLED panels, as Gen 8 substrates have higher production efficiency and help reduce costs by optimizing the number of displays produced per sheet of glass.

MAX OLED technology promises a significant improvement in the performance of OLED displays. It is said that the panels produced using this system achieve 3 times more brightness, 2.5 times higher resolution and 5 times longer lifespan than conventional OLED displays. Despite these improvements, energy consumption has been reduced by about 30% in MAX OLED technology, which makes it more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly.

The MAX OLED platform seamlessly utilizes new materials and precision engineering processes to overcome common challenges in OLED panel production, including uniformity and high waste volume. The unique co-evaporation process in the new technology increases the accuracy of material deposition, while the dedicated tools also simplify the process.
