Snapdragon X Plus 8-core processor was introduced; The beating heart of expensive and smart laptops
The new generation of Windows laptops equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series processors were launched this summer at a price of at least $999, and now Qualcomm wants to reduce the price of new generation laptops by at least $100 with two new and weaker chips.
A few moments ago, during the IFA 2024 exhibition in Berlin, Qualcomm unveiled the octa-core models of the Snapdragon X Plus chip. These processors are going to be included in the Asus Zenbook S 15 and Dell Inspiron 14 laptops, which will be available for $899 each.
Qualcomm’s new processors have the same features as the 10-core and 12-core models, but appear weaker in some areas; Especially the graphic processing section. On average, the graphics power of Qualcomm’s octa-core chips is less than half that of the 10-core and 12-core models.
Qualcomm’s new octa-core processors have 12 MB of CPU cache less than the previous models, but like them, they are equipped with a neural processing unit with a power of 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second). The neural processing unit is special for artificial intelligence tasks.
According to Qualcomm’s official benchmarks, the CPU power in the octa-core chips of the Snapdragon X Plus series is almost 80% of the 12-core models, and if you do light processing, the octa-core models appear at the same level as the 10-core models.
Qualcomm’s octa-core processors are finding their way into affordable laptops whose users don’t need impressive processing power. Qualcomm previously said that the price of laptops equipped with Snapdragon chips will reach $700 by 2025.
