Samsung’s new telephoto lens for phones was introduced; More compact and advanced in zoom photography
Samsung announced the development of a new telephoto lens for smartphone cameras. This module uses the All Lenses on Prism (ALoP) technology, which allows the use of larger lenses in a module with smaller dimensions, resulting in improved image quality.
Older lenses were placed between the periscope prism and the camera sensor, but in the new generation of Samsung telephoto lenses, the entire lens is placed on the prism. The South Korean tech giant says the company’s ALoP module uses a 40-degree prism reflective surface and a 10-degree sensor array.

In conventional periscopic telephoto modules, larger lenses cannot be used; Because as the diameter of the lens increases, the height of the module also increases. However, in ALoP, the lenses are placed horizontally with respect to the body of the smartphone. Therefore, the use of larger lenses will not increase the height of the module and the thickness of the phone.

Since ALoP allows the use of larger and brighter lenses, image quality improves in both bright and low light conditions. Samsung claims that the company’s new ALoP telephoto lens uses an aperture of F2.58, a focal length of 80 mm and an optical zoom of about 3 times. In comparison, the telephoto lens used in the Galaxy S24 Ultra uses an aperture of F3.4.
Samsung has not yet specified which phones will use the new ALoP telephoto camera module, but the new technology is expected to be used in upcoming compact flagships including the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 7.
