By publishing its 1402 sustainability report, Irancell explained its measures to reduce the digital divide in Iran. The concept of “digital divide” refers to existing inequalities in access to communication and information technology. This gap is an obstacle to access political, economic and social resources and has many economic, educational and social consequences.
Two major inequalities in reducing the digital divide are “not having access to communication and information technologies” and “not having the necessary knowledge to use the Internet”.
As a result of the efforts of the last two decades, 92.7% of Iran’s population has been covered by Irancell’s communication network, and the future activities of this company are focused on expanding the network to complete this coverage even more.
New communication technologies such as 5G and network infrastructure, fiber optics, Internet of Things, communication solutions and models, artificial intelligence, cyber security, cloud processing, and API exchange and presentation platforms, contribute to the growth of the digital economy. As a result of continuous activities to expand the network infrastructure and in order to develop the digital economy, in 1402, about 75 million people of Iran’s population were covered by Irancell’s high-speed internet. In this year alone, Irancell has adhered to its commitment to strengthen the communication network infrastructure by taking actions such as almost doubling the 5G network sites and implementing more than 300 kilometers of optical fiber projects with more than 300 fiber sites.
In general, Irancell has invested more than 60 thousand billion rials for the development of network infrastructure in 1402, which has led to the acceleration of the creation of digital economy infrastructure and the growth of data traffic.
In general, the main actions of Irancell in order to reduce the digital divide are related to the expansion of the communication network infrastructure, especially the 4G network, and covering more people in the society. These basic measures provide the platform to reduce the digital divide.
According to the 1402 sustainability report, in order to reduce the digital divide, this year, Irancell has commissioned 979 new BTS sites, including 388 urban sites, 575 rural sites, and 16 special sites for ports, airports, industrial areas, tourism, etc. .. is
Also this year, 14 new cities, 1004 new villages and 500 km of new roads have been covered by Irancell’s communication network.
In this way, 414,956 new people have been covered by Irancell communication network, of which 103,610 people live in urban areas and 311,346 people live in rural areas.
