GTA V was one of the most popular titles on Steam and was in the top 20 games for at least two years. Rockstar has now listed the Steam Deck as an “unsupported” device, and this decision has been made only for the online portion of the game.
The removal of Steam Deck from the list of devices compatible with GTA V sparked heated discussions about anti-cheat software on Linux operating systems. Like the creators of Fortnite and Roblox, Rockstar has decided not to support the new anti-cheat software from Volvo for GTA Online on Steam. This is while many people believe that the online part of the game needs a very effective solution to deal with cheating.
Rockstar blamed Velo for claiming that the Steam deck in GTA V’s online section does not support BattlEye’s anti-cheat software. The company left an important key question unanswered: Why didn’t they use BattlEye anti-cheat software on Steam Deck?
BattlEye worked on Steam Deck, and Volvo had enabled support for this software for Steam Deck years ago, and a number of games equipped with anti-cheat software ran smoothly on the company’s handheld console. Valve says that enabling BattlEye to play on Steam Deck is only possible by sending an email.

It is still possible to play the single-player part of GTA V on Steam Deck. In Rockstar’s Q&A, it is written: “You can play GTA V’s Story Mode, but not GTA Online.”
