The 2019 AM-RB 003 Concept was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show as a preview of Aston Martin’s next mid-engined supercar. At that time, Aston Martin said that the production version of its new supercar will hit the streets before the end of 2021; Now five years have passed since that date, and still prototypes of the Valhalla car are being tested on the Nurburgring track.
The prototype of the Valhalla supercar looks very distinctive with its large rear wing. The aerodynamic package will be suitable for applying more than 600 kg of downward force (downforce) at a speed of 240 km/h. Aston Martin is not yet ready to show the final design of the car to the media.
Initially, the Valhalla was supposed to use Aston Martin’s own three-liter twin-turbo V6 engine; But later this engine gave way to a bigger V8 made by Mercedes AMG; Four-liter twin-turbo flat crankshaft engine that can reach 7,200 rpm and drive the rear wheels.
The combustion engine alone sends 800 horsepower to the rear wheels. However, the Valhalla supercar will not be purely internal combustion, as the hybrid system with three electric motors will help the combustion engine to produce a total of 998 horsepower.
To save weight, Aston Martin’s upcoming supercar won’t have a reverse gear, and instead, the front engines will provide reverse motion. The third electric motor is placed inside the gearbox and sends its power to the rear axle. This engine also acts as a starter or generator for a combustion engine.
Assuming Aston Martin’s claimed numbers are correct, the Valhalla can reach 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the car will apparently be 350 kilometers per hour; Of course, the speed of the car will not exceed 128 km/h using only electric motors. The Valhalla can travel only 15 km in all-electric mode, the weight of the Valhalla before the addition of coolant is stated to be 1,549 kg.
Aston Martin promises to start production of 999 units of the Valhalla this year. In the market, the Valhalla will have to compete with rivals such as the McLaren Artura, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the recently introduced Lamborghini Temirario.
