Infiniti (Nissan’s luxury brand) will end production of the Q50 mid-size sedan in 2025, so that the brand’s product portfolio will only host SUVs.
An Infiniti spokesperson told The Autopian that 2024 will be the last year the Q50 will be on the market. Unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, the Q50 replaced the G37 sedan; A car that received mostly negative reviews due to its controversial power steering system.
Q50 was facelifted several times during about a decade of its presence in the market, and a new type called Red Sport 400 with 400 horsepower was presented for it; But the Q50 was never able to pose a threat to the BMW 3 Series or the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, selling only around 47,000 units in its best year.
The discontinuation of the Q50 comes just two years after the demise of the Q60 coupe. The Q60, which will stop production in 2022, had the same looks and engines as the Q50. Infiniti considers the reason for stopping production of the Q50 to focus on the production of more luxurious crossovers such as the QX80.
