It has been almost three years since Apple released the Studio Display monitor. In the following, we will examine the rumors surrounding Studio Display 2.
In 2022, Apple released Studio Display along with Mac Studio. This independent display has a 27-inch LCD screen with 5K resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate, 600 nits maximum brightness, camera and speakers. Internally, there is one Thunderbolt 3 port and three USB-C ports. This display can be ordered now at the price of 1599.
Apple is rumored to be planning a new 27-inch display with mini-LED backlighting. This technology allows the Apple monitor to have more brightness and contrast than the current Studio Display. In 2023, Ming Chi KuApple’s supply chain analyst, announced that mass production of the display is planned for 2024 or early 2025. But it is not yet clear whether Apple will follow this plan or not.
A few months ago, in the Upgrade podcast, it was claimed that Apple is developing 90 Hz display technology and that Apple may use this technology in the next generation Studio Display display. Although the 90Hz refresh rate promises smoother movements than the current 60Hz display, it falls short of the 120Hz displays on Apple phones and MacBooks that support ProMotion technology.

It is likely that Apple’s Studio Display screen will remain in Apple’s lineup for at least a few years without a successor.
