America and Japan are close to an agreement to limit the export of chip technology to China; Financial Times report

The United States and Japan are close to an agreement to limit exports of chip technology to China, the Financial Times reported, despite Tokyo’s concerns over Beijing’s threat of retaliation against Japanese companies.

The news of the possible agreement between Japan and the United States comes as the two countries Japan and the Netherlands had previously agreed to join the United States in limiting the export of technology related to advanced processors to China.

China has faced increasing pressure on its chip industry in recent years. Many countries refuse to provide chip manufacturing equipment and advanced technologies to China.

Japan previously added 23 chip-making tools to its export control list, which restricts shipments of advanced equipment on the list to China. As one of the famous Chinese chipmakers, SMIC and YMTC are no longer able to provide the tools needed to make advanced chips.
