This change allows users to replace the SSD module of the Apple laptop without the need for micro-soldering; A feature that this company had removed years ago.

A self-proclaimed “Logicboard Mac enthusiast,” iBuff explained in his YouTube video that the change involves installing a custom SSD port that allows for storage upgrades while maintaining the laptop’s slim appearance. After installing this port, users can easily replace SSDs with different capacities. In the demos shown by iBuff, we can see that the 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 SSD can be upgraded from 256GB to 2TB.

This achievement is particularly important considering Apple’s history of limiting hardware upgradeability. Since the 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Apple has mostly used SSDs soldered onto the logic board, making storage upgrades nearly impossible. In the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro models, it was possible to upgrade the storage space with traditional function keys; But this feature was completely removed with the standardization of Touch ID and Touch Bar in 2019.
