Google unveiled its first AI assistant that can surf the web. This assistant is called Project Mariner and is part of DeepMind research.
Google’s artificial intelligence assistant can take control of the Chrome browser, move the mouse pointer on the screen, click buttons, fill out forms, and thus can navigate websites like a human, browse the web, and even make purchases.

According to a report by TechCrunch, a Google executive said that this is part of a fundamental shift in the user experience paradigm to move users away from interacting directly with websites and instead interact with an artificial intelligence assistant that does these things for them.
After installing Mariner’s AI assistant via a Chrome extension, a chat window will open on the right side of your browser and you can ask it to do things like create a shopping cart from the grocery store based on your list.
Google Assistant cannot process the payment; Because it is not supposed to fill the card number or billing information. Also, Mariner cannot accept cookies for users or sign a service agreement. Google says it intentionally doesn’t allow Assistant to do these things to give users more control.
After adding products to the cart, Mariner takes a screenshot of the browser window and sends it to Jumnai for processing. Jamna then sends instructions to the user’s computer to be applied to the website.
Mariner can be used to find flights and hotels, buy household items, find recipes, and other tasks that currently require clicking on the web.
Mariner only works on the active page of the Chrome browser. This means that you cannot use your computer for other tasks while the assistant is working and you have to watch Jamnai click. DeepMind’s chief technology officer says the decision is to let users know what Google’s AI assistant does. “You as an individual can use websites and now your assistant can do the same things you do on the website,” he said.
