Intel’s board is considering several candidates, including lip-boo tan (Lip-Bu Tan), a former board member, is up for the position of CEO.
According to Reuters, Tan, who was previously known as one of the leading options for the leadership of the blue team, has recently been considered by the board to consider his interest in the position.
Sources stressed that discussions are at an early stage and the American chip giant has not yet identified a replacement Gelsinger has not specified Intel’s board of directors has formed a search committee for a CEO and is expected to make a final decision in the coming weeks.

Lip-Bo Tan was born in 1959 in Malaysia. He grew up in Singapore and went to MIT to continue his education. Tan is a veteran of the semiconductor industry and served on Intel’s board for about two years as part of the company’s “return program.” He joined the board of directors in September 2022 and took on additional responsibilities to oversee production operations a year later.
Tan stepped down after disagreeing with Gelsinger on various issues, including workforce size and contract manufacturing strategy and work culture. Before joining Intel, Tan was the CEO of Cadence Design Systems for more than a decade, helping to improve the company’s financial situation during the recession.
