WhatsApp is developing a transcription feature that will make it easier to communicate via voice messages. According to the Verge, the ability to convert voice messages to text will be released to Android and iPhone users worldwide in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp’s new feature allows users to automatically access the text version of voice messages. Only users who have enabled this feature can see the transcribed version of the voice message they have received.
WhatsApp announced that the transcribed messages are created directly on the users’ device and no one, not even WhatsApp itself, can read or hear the users’ private messages.
The ability to transcribe voice messages will not be activated by default; But users can access this feature by clicking on the chats option in the settings section and then selecting the Voice message transcripts option.
English, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Indian languages will be active for Android users at first; But iPhone users will have access to more options. WhatsApp has announced that it will support more languages in the coming months.
