WhatsApp uses a new privacy technology called Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS) to store contacts. Meta said about this new technology that names and numbers are encrypted and only the user can access them. WhatsApp spokesperson Jessica Maskell announced that the new feature will come with a username-based system that will no longer require a phone number.
