Almost 25 years after it started making electronic payments, PayPal changed its logo to a simple black text. The new PayPal logo, designed by Pentagram, is much simpler than the previous versions. In older versions, the logo was slanted, consisting of two shades of blue, and featured a large, prominent PayPal letter.
PayPal says the new black, stand-alone logo won’t be confused with other online payment companies, especially the blue color that has become the symbol of fintech, and that’s why it made the change.
PayPal’s new logo will join the ranks of many other companies that have gone from flashy and recognizable logos to plain, boring text. The new GoDaddy, Petco, and Johnson & Johnson logos are examples of this.
Following the trend these days, PayPal’s new logo has moved towards simplicity. “Light blue and dark blue combine to create Venmo’s signature blue,” Pentagram says.
PayPal seems to have started using its new logo this month.
