The world of technology is having a busy day thanks to the IFA exhibition. With the introduction of Lunar Lake series processors, Intel goes to battle with AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series processors and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series. On the other hand, Qualcomm wants to reduce the price of laptops by introducing the octa-core version of Snapdragon X Plus.
Lenovo is one of the important players in the field of laptops, and at this year’s IFA exhibition, it introduced a wave of new laptops with AMD processors and artificial intelligence capabilities.
Lenovo ThinkPad T14s (6th generation)
In June, Lenovo launched the ThinkPad T14s (6th generation) model with Snapdragon X Elite chip, which has the same specifications as the new version with AMD processor. Notable differences include more weight on the AMD model (1.29 kg compared to 1.23 kg) and some changes in ports, camera and display options.
Thinkpad with AMD chip uses Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB-A and HDMI 2.1 ports, 3.5 mm audio jack and SIM card port in models with 5G capability and supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.
According to Lenovo’s official statement, the new generation ThinkPad T14s uses a five-megapixel webcam with an infrared sensor, a button to disable the webcam for higher security, and a fingerprint sensor.
As expected from ThinkPad laptops, an array of security features including Lenovo’s ThinkShield tool, Microsoft Pluton, Kensington lock and AMD security features with AI PRO chip are included for the ThinkPad T14s.
Lenovo does not mention anything more about the device’s hardware specifications except for the new AMD Ryzen AI PRO series chip. Considering the release date of the Lenovo laptop in October 2024, AMD will probably introduce its new chips in the coming weeks.
If the rumors are true, the Ryzen AI PRO series will be based on the Ryzen AI 300 series processors and will likely have the same Neural Processing Unit (NPU) as those chips.
Lenovo offers its new ThinkPad in two models with touch or non-touch LCD display with FHD+ resolution, maximum brightness of 400 nits and 100% sRGB color space coverage. The energy of the device is provided by a 58 watt-hour battery, which Lenovo claims can accompany the user for up to 17 hours.
The price of the new Lenovo laptop is expected to be around 1,700 euros (about $1,880).
Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 (9th generation)
The new Yoga Pro 7 uses the Ryzen AI 9 365 processor along with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB SSD.
The device’s 14.5-inch screen has a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 600 nits, and it covers 100% of the sRGB, AdobeRGB, and DCI-P3 color spaces.
Thanks to the 1.5 mm distance between the keyboard keys, the typing experience with the new Lenovo laptop will be enjoyable. Above the display is an FHD webcam with an infrared sensor and a button to disable the webcam. The device’s webcam supports Windows Studio Effects and can improve image quality with artificial intelligence. The device is powered by a 73 watt-hour battery. The price of the mentioned laptop starts from 1700 euros (about 1880 dollars).
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 13 and IdeaPad Slim 5 15
The 13-inch and 15-inch models of the IdeaPad Slim 5 laptop are technically like other new Lenovo laptops in the category of artificial intelligence computers; But due to the use of AMD Ryzen 7000 series chips, they will not have access to Microsoft’s artificial intelligence capabilities. Unlike the Ryzen AI 300 series, these old chips do not have high power in artificial intelligence processing.
The price of the IdeaPad Slim 5 series starts at 699 euros (about $777) and is available in two models with 13.3-inch and 15.3-inch 60Hz FHD+ displays. For the 15.3-inch model, you can order another configuration with an Old QHD+ display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a brightness of 500 nits.
The IdeaPad series, like the other mentioned laptops, are available with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. This series can be ordered with a 54.7 watt-hour or 70 watt-hour battery.
The new IdeaPad Slim 5 model has two USB-C 3.2 (Gen 2) and one HDMI 2.1 and USB-A 3.2 (Gen 1) ports, a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
