Google product manager: We focused on improving the performance of the G4 Tensor chip in real-world applications, not benchmarks

One of the managers of Google announced that the main purpose of designing the Tensor G4 processor is not to score points in the benchmark or to be able to perform certain functions; Rather, it is made to better meet the daily needs of users.

One of the constant debates about Google’s Tensor processors is that they don’t score brilliantly in benchmarks and don’t have much to say against competitors like Snapdragon. This issue did not change with the introduction of the G4 tensor; Because Google considers the Pixel 9 series processor to meet the needs of the real world and does not care about benchmarks.

In 2021, with the introduction of the Pixel 6 series, Google moved away from Qualcomm processors and switched to Tensor. Google cited this change as being in line with the company’s goals for the Pixel phone, particularly focusing on artificial intelligence features.

At this year’s Made by Google event, Google introduced the Tensor G4 as the most optimized processor at the heart of its new phones and said: “This processor is designed to improve everyday use, to perform tasks such as web browsing and video streaming on YouTube and imaging with higher quality. and put less pressure on the battery.”

Sonia JobanputraIn an interview with Financial Express, Google’s product manager stated that Tensor was not designed to break benchmark records: “When we’re designing a processor, we’re not designing it to meet a specific benchmark that’s out there; Rather, we focus on achieving our desired applications.”

Jobanputra added: “We knew we had a problem opening apps; “So when we built the G4, we really focused on what we needed to do to create a better user experience for users.” Therefore, the Pixel 9’s ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time (multitasking) and be more efficient in opening applications should be better than the Pixel 8 series.

Google is said to be offering its first fully customized Tensor design next year; Because Tensor G4 still has many similarities with Samsung Exynos. Also, the production of Google’s next-generation dedicated processor will probably be in charge of TSMC. This change can lead to further improvements in performance and efficiency.
